How to check you're really talking to kimolo on Discord
Most of my work starts with a message on Discord. That's also where impersonators work: anyone can copy a display name and a profile picture in a few seconds. Before you send money, files or logins to anyone claiming to be kimolo, take ten seconds to check.
1. Check the username, exactly
My username is kml.o: all lowercase, with a full stop between the l and the o. Look-alikes swap in characters that look the same, such as kml.0 (zero), kmI.o (capital i) or kml_o. Display names don't count: mine shows as void, but anyone can set their display name to that.
2. Open my profile from this website
The Open my profile button on my contact section always opens my real account, because it links to my account's ID, which can't be copied.
3. Check the user ID by hand
- In Discord, open Settings → Advanced and turn on Developer Mode.
- Right-click (or long-press) the profile you're talking to and choose Copy User ID.
- It must be exactly
918130785284939796. Any other number is not me.
4. Ask me by email
Still not sure? Email hello@kimolo.dev and I'll confirm whether it's me you're talking to.
Good habits on Discord in general
- Discord staff will never DM you asking for your password or a login code. Nobody else should either.
- Be wary of "log in to claim" links, QR codes and free Nitro offers. Check where a link really goes before you click it.
- If a deal is urgent, pushy or too cheap to be true, slow down and verify first.
